Curious Refuge Joins Google and Idris Elba's Akuna Group to Empower the Next Generation of African Storytellers
By Caleb Ward
Curious Refuge is proud to collaborate with Google and Idris Elba’s Akuna Group on From Script to Screen with AI, a new initiative designed to empower emerging African filmmakers with the tools, training and resources to bring their stories to life.

As the initiative’s education partner, Curious Refuge will provide select creators from Ghana, Kenya, Nigeria, Sierra Leone and South Africa with free access to its comprehensive catalog of generative AI filmmaking courses across five disciplines: Advertising, Animation, Documentary, Fiction and Screenwriting.
Participants will also receive tailored mentorship through Akuna Learning, with graduates having the opportunity to form teams and pitch their projects for production funding sponsored by Google, while retaining full ownership of their work.
At Curious Refuge, we believe the next generation of great storytellers can come from anywhere. Since day one, our mission has been to democratize access to filmmaking education, empowering artists around the world with the skills, technology and creative confidence to bring their visions to life.
This collaboration represents an exciting step forward in that mission, combining education, mentorship and access to new production opportunities to help amplify original voices and stories from across Africa.
We're proud to join Google and Akuna in supporting this next generation of filmmakers and can't wait to see the stories they bring to the screen.
Applications are now open at akunalearning.com.
